What is there not to like about a duo that goes by the name “Chocolate Puma?”
Actually the pair of Dutch DJs behind Chocolate Puma has been around for a long time and has therefore gone by a lot of different names. Most consistently, they've been known as Zki and Dobre. As far as I can tell, they've had quite a few hits under the Chocolate Puma name lately, so they appear to be sticking with that moniker for now.
If you go to their website and poke around on their music page, you'll find a lot of their recent music is of the classic Dutch house/techno category, with a distinctive, snappy “kick” to the beat. These guys are real producer geeks so if you want to know exactly how they manage their tracks, they have a wealth of material on the studio page of their website. But the song that I am obsessing on right now is a bit different. The kick is still there, but the melody is floaty and otherworldly. I wish I had the knowledge and vocabulary to be able to explain just what is going on in this piece that is so different from their run-of-the-mill, but give it a listen and don't say I didn't warn you if you become addicted. Right now this is my writing music of choice!
